Lollapalooza: RECAP

What a weekend! We’re back in New York in one piece after seeing about 30 different bands in three days, and surviving an emergency evacuation with about 60,000 other concert-goers on Saturday afternoon.

Lots of amazing artists this year and overall the weather was beautiful! Few artists we really enjoyed include, Sub Pop’s First Aid Kit, Brooklyn’s own Anamanaguchi, American Idol competitor Haley Reinhart, Michael Kiwanuka, Dr. Dog, The Afghan Whigs, Sharon Van Etten, The Black Angels, The Head & The Heart, thenewno2, The Shins, BLACK SABBATH !!!, Milo Greene, Fidlar, Chancellor Warhol, JEFF the Brotherhood, Moon Taxi, Aloe Blacc, GIVERS, FUN., Bloc Party, Twin Shadow (who killed it right after the storm!), Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Mona, Oberhofer (Brad was a wild man and ran into the crowd), Trampled By Turtles (had to get a little country in there), Little Dragon (AMAZING), J. Cole, At The Drive-In (who were sloppy as ever, but still rocked pretty hard with a great sense of humor), Miike Snow, Chairlift (who sounded and looked beautiful in all white), and Jack White who wrapped up the festival at the Red Bull Soundstage. Whew…that’s a lot music!

Check out Theo’s instagram feed on his tumblr page to see some of the shows he checked out. You can also see more fun photos on the official Lollapalooza flickr website and also check out the awesome Sunday highlights video below that Lollapalooza posted on YouTube. Looking forward to going again next year! Thanks Chicago!

Field Trip: Lollapalooza!

Lollapalooza

Summer is in full swing, and so are all of the great festivals.  Every year Lollapalooza serves as one best curated collections of live music out there.  This year is no exception.  Whether you’re out there on the battlefield with thousands of music fans, backstage relaxing or at home watching all of the action on YouTube (seriously, how cool is this, and how long will it be before all festivals stream everything), your life gets a bit of an upgrade this weekend.  There’s one day down and two more to go.  After catching The Afghan Whigs, The Black Angels and First Aid Kit yesterday, the festival is already a win, but we can’t say we’re not looking forward to everyone left to play.  Who are you excited for?

Ooh La La Takes Over Union Hall!

The Last Royals @ Union Hall

On Wednesday, August 8, Ooh La La Records takes over Union Hall with our first “Ooh La La Records Presents” show, featuring our very own The Last Royals! We’ve invited a couple other great bands from near and far to join them and even have a guest DJ. NPR favorites and recent Big Ugly Yellow Couch patrons Tan Vampires are making their way down from New Hampshire, and Williamsburg’s own Youngman Grand (members of Kevin Devine, The Jealous Girlfriends) will close out the evening.  This is going to be a fun night with a ton of great music and we hope ya’ll can make it out for a drink or two with us.
