Ace Reporter Hits The Road

Attention Philly, New York, DC and Chicago!

What better way to ride out the dog days of summer than to throw back a cold one and dance to some Ace Reporter? Well, now’s your chance! Ace Reporter will be appearing live and in the flesh in your city this August!

Here’s what frontman Chris Snyder had to say about the upcoming shows in their monthly newsletter:

Hey there,

It’s that time again — everyone’s either on vacation or really wishing they were. (I’m kind of perennially in that second category, but whatever. Plenty of time to vacation when I’m too old to play rock shows.)

On that note, it’s time to play some shows! As I may have mentioned in a previous missive, Ace Reporter has shifted its residence to the shores of Lake Michigan, and this is going to be the first few shows featuring a brand-new Chicago-based lineup. So come out and help us get our sea legs underneath us…

White Arrows Update

Well, there are a lot of fun and exciting things going on with our boyz in White Arrows, so we figured we might as well give you a little update! First of all they’re headed back out on the road, covering the US again, and this time they’re teaming up with Family Of The Year, Maps & Atlases and Young Buffalo (dates below). Second of all, there’s a fun new “Roll Forever” remix by Teen Daze floating around the internets that we’re enjoying greatly (stream/download directly below). And lastly, there’s a cool video on YouTube of White Arrows covering Fleetwood Mac‘s “Save Me A Place” in Boston this past summer (above). The fun thing about that song is its the b-side on the Get Gone 7″ that’s available in our web store! How’s that for an update??

Field Trip: Lollapalooza!

Lollapalooza

Summer is in full swing, and so are all of the great festivals.  Every year Lollapalooza serves as one best curated collections of live music out there.  This year is no exception.  Whether you’re out there on the battlefield with thousands of music fans, backstage relaxing or at home watching all of the action on YouTube (seriously, how cool is this, and how long will it be before all festivals stream everything), your life gets a bit of an upgrade this weekend.  There’s one day down and two more to go.  After catching The Afghan Whigs, The Black Angels and First Aid Kit yesterday, the festival is already a win, but we can’t say we’re not looking forward to everyone left to play.  Who are you excited for?

Get Gone

Google Honors Les Paul

This morning I woke up and as usual, got my coffee, booted up my MacBook and opened up my Internet browser. To my pleasant surprise, there was an odd, robotic looking guitar on Google’s homepage. Not only was it a cool image, but it was an interactive guitar “doodle”. I soon learned this Google Doodle was honoring what would have been guitar legend, Les Paul’s 96th birthday. Kudos to Google for honoring Les Paul, the songwriter, guitarist, innovator, inventor! I can’t think of anyone who single handedly played such a large role in the development of guitar technology. Check out this article from The Atlantic that explains it all and also shows a video of the doodle for those of you who missed it. Below is a video of the man himself wowing an audience with one of his new inventions, the “Les Pulverizer”:

This comes shortly after the loss of another great guitar slinger. Last month month the music world lost an incredible talent, guitarist Cornell Dupree. Hailing from Fort Worth, TX, known as “Mr. 2500” (referring to the number of dates he had played on) he was known as one of the great session musicians of his generation. Though he played in a band with Jimi Hendrix at one time, he was glad to stay out of the spotlight which made him the ideal session musician. Pleased to simply earn the respect of his peers and fellow musicians/producers alike he worked closely with legends such as Jerry Wexler, Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, and even Mariah Carey. He was known as the man who could play both rhythm and lead guitar at the same time. Check out a few videos below to see rare footage of a young Cornell Dupree playing w/ King Curtis on sax as well as a more recent clip of him playing with legendary drummer Steve Gadd.
