1,2,3 “Bigger Black Car”

123-Bigger-DeathTaxes-ScreenShot

1,2,3 return to Ooh La La, to release their latest self described disaster ballad “Bigger Black Car”. In a celebration of the label and band’s anniversary of the debut release ”Confetti” from 2010, Nic Snyder delivers a song that he says “is about a common inner conflict, the necessity and enjoyment of an automobile and the knowledge that you are contributing to a multitude of ecological problems by driving one.”

Ooh La La Artist Video Series #11

videoartistsseries

For the eleventh installment of our Artist Video Series, director Maia Stern pulls from the archives of her childhood to give us this nostalgiac vignette, set to Ace Reporter’s “Untouched and Arrived”.

Here’s what Maia had to say about the video:

I grew up with two older brothers and a dad who documented almost everything we did. This is some of my favorite footage my dad filmed one summer in Malibu, California. My eldest brother was surfing with a friend while I was digging in the sand and finding seaweed with a friend. I never understood why this footage came out with such a green tone, so I wanted to experiment with color filters for this video, to see what it would look like in other shades. I wanted to see the moon as blue and me in black an white rather than green. You can’t really change your memories if you have them documented in film, but you can change their colors.

Ace Reporter Hits The Road

Attention Philly, New York, DC and Chicago!

What better way to ride out the dog days of summer than to throw back a cold one and dance to some Ace Reporter? Well, now’s your chance! Ace Reporter will be appearing live and in the flesh in your city this August!

Here’s what frontman Chris Snyder had to say about the upcoming shows in their monthly newsletter:

Hey there,

It’s that time again — everyone’s either on vacation or really wishing they were. (I’m kind of perennially in that second category, but whatever. Plenty of time to vacation when I’m too old to play rock shows.)

On that note, it’s time to play some shows! As I may have mentioned in a previous missive, Ace Reporter has shifted its residence to the shores of Lake Michigan, and this is going to be the first few shows featuring a brand-new Chicago-based lineup. So come out and help us get our sea legs underneath us…

Who’s your favorite? Paulvana or Nirveatles?

Paulvana

When it comes to music, we certainly are in no shortage of opinions, so we can say without hesitation that two of our favorite bands of all time are The Beatles and Nirvana.  Now, the jury is still on whether or not the events that took place at the 12.12.12 show this past week were the highlight they thought it would be, but everyone seemed to have a good time and it was certainly for a good cause so we won’t be the ones to say that sometimes there really is too much of a good thing.  But it is pretty safe to say that the photo above is equally disturbing and funny.  In case you haven’t heard the song they performed the other night together, we’ve reposted the studio recording that will appear on the soundtrack to Dave Grohl‘s “Sound City” documentary below.  That’s a whole lot of really exiting things rolled into one.  Thank you to Pitchfork and Death & Taxes for providing all of the content.  And thank you to Dave Grohl, Paul McCartney, Krist Novaselic and Pat Smear for having the energy and creativity to make this happen.

What’s the next live mashup you’d like to see?  RuPaul McCartneyFountains Of Lil WayneFaith No MorrisseyBen Folds Five For FightingPassion Pitbull?  Okay, we’ll stop, just, anything but this:
